Scouting for Food Distribution Day
Scouting for Food is the BSA-wide November food drive. Reggie opens slots for distribution day — boys and parents drop pre-printed bags at neighborhoods Saturday morning, then return next Saturday to collect filled bags. Two parents per neighborhood section; 10 sections across the assigned BSA collection zone. Pickup-day pickup runs 9am to 12pm at four collection points.
MLK Day Park Cleanup
January MLK Day means service — Reggie's pack partners with the City of Birmingham Parks Department to clean a 12-acre neighborhood park. Boys and parents pick up litter, paint benches, prune shrubs, and clear walking paths. Reggie opens slots for station leaders (cleanup crews, paint stations, tool runners) and a tools-and-supplies parent who pre-stages everything Friday night.
Earth Day Tree Planting Coordination
April Earth Day brings a tree-planting partnership with the local Audubon chapter. The pack plants 80 trees across two acres of restored wetland. Reggie opens slots for hole-digging crews (two boys + one parent per hole), tree-stake stewards, and a parent in charge of the watering protocol for the post-planting 14-day stewardship window.
Holiday Tree Pickup Fundraiser
Some packs run a January holiday-tree pickup service — families donate $20, boys and parents collect their tree and drop at the city's mulching center. Funds support pack scholarships for summer camp. Reggie opens slots for collection routes (two parents per route, four routes across the city) and the pickup-day weigh-station volunteer at the mulching center.
Service Hour Logging and Reporting
BSA tracks service hours at the rank level — Cub Scouts complete service hours toward their Bobcat, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos requirements. Reggie opens a service-hour-logging slot for parents who help boys document hours from each project. Logging happens at the next Den meeting after the service event; signed paperwork goes into the boy's advancement file.
Mid-Project Snack and Hydration
Service projects last 3 to 4 hours. Boys need a mid-project snack and hydration break. Reggie opens slots for snack-and-water volunteers — one parent per project to set up a snack station at the halfway mark with granola bars, fruit, and water. Slot description specifies 'allergy-aware, no peanuts.'
Project-Day Photographer
Each service project gets a parent photographer to capture boys-in-action shots. Reggie opens one photographer slot per project plus a backup. Photos compile into the pack's annual service-project recap that goes home in the year-end Den newsletter and to the council recognition committee.
Tools, Supplies, and Award Coordination
Service projects require tools — paint, brushes, pruners, work gloves, trash bags, water coolers. Reggie opens slots for parents with trucks who can transport supplies from the pack storage shed to the project site Friday night. Same workstream covers BSA recognition — World Conservation Award for Earth Day, Religious Emblems for Scouting for Food. Award packets compile at end of each project; recognition happens at the next pack meeting.

Reggie shares the sheet link with the Cubmaster so they see live coverage from any phone — boys committed, parents signed up, supply-truck drivers confirmed. Export for the BSA Council Recognition
BSA councils recognize packs with high service-hour totals.
