Each Den meets weekly — Lion (K), Tiger (1st), Wolf (2nd), Bear (3rd), Webelos (4th-5th). Kelly opens slots for each Den's weekly meetings — typically 4 to 6 family rotations per Den per quarter. Slot description specifies allergy considerations and serving size (8 to 12 boys plus den leader).
Allergy-Aware Snack Assignment
Burlington VT pack has one Cub with a severe peanut allergy and two with celiac (gluten-free). Kelly's slot description notes 'PEANUT-FREE, GLUTEN-FREE OPTIONS REQUIRED.' Parents leave a comment with what they're bringing; Kelly spots cross-contamination risks before the meeting. Rules also apply at pack meetings where all boys mix.

Each Den meeting needs juice boxes or water bottles. Kelly opens a 'drink-only' slot per Den per meeting — one parent brings drinks, one parent brings food. Splits the load across two parents instead of one per meeting. Many parents prefer drink-only slots because they're lower-effort and cheaper.
Birthday Cupcake Coordination for Cubs
Each Cub Scout's birthday week gets a special meeting treat — cupcakes for the Den, banner from the den leader, card from the den. Kelly opens a season-long birthday-cupcake calendar; one parent per birthday claims the slot and brings cupcakes to the meeting closest to the actual birthday. Calendar-driven, lowest stress per parent.
Substitute Slot Coverage
When a parent on a snack rotation has to cancel last-minute, Kelly's sheet has an alternate-slot list. Three parents per Den volunteer to be on standby for the month; alternate auto-promotes when the primary cancels. The Den's snack table never goes empty even when a primary parent has a sick kid.
End-of-Month Snack Pantry Restock
Kelly maintains a small pantry of pack-funded backup snacks (Goldfish, granola bars, juice boxes) for emergency coverage when the assigned parent forgets. End-of-month she opens a slot for the parent who restocks the pantry from Costco. Pantry budget runs $40 a month and reduces day-of snack panic.
